JOHOR BARU: Police have identified two suspects believed to be responsible for the death of 17-year-old Tan Shu Fang, who died following a snatch-theft incident.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Datuk Amer Awal said the suspects, in their 20s, have prior records for drug-related offences.

“Our task force is tracking them down.

“They are moving around randomly, thus making it hard for us to pinpoint their location,” he said yesterday.

The police were not ruling out the possibility that the suspects were also involved in other similar crimes in the city.

“Police personnel assigned to the case are working day and night to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice,” he said.

On Friday, Shu Fang died after being in a coma for a week.

A straight-As student of SMK Mutiara Rini 2, Shu Fang was walking with her mother Leong Akooi to a bank near their house in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, on Sept 17, when two men on a motorcycle snatched her handbag, causing both to fall.

On another matter, SAC Amer said police were close to apprehending the suspects involved in the jewellery shop robbery in Seri Alam.

“We are working on several clues and are confident of apprehending them soon,” he said.

On Friday, four men armed with a gun and axes stormed into a jewellery shop in a hypermarket in Taman Desa Cemer- lang, and made off with items worth RM400,000.
