Spoilt for choice

What say you on the issue below?

Terazza Brasserie and Miyako Japanese Restaurant continue to entice diners with their signature dishes even though the Sheraton Subang Hotel & Towers will be rebranded as Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel come Oct 1, 2009.

Winds of change are blowing through the Sheraton Subang Hotel & Tower. Currently, renovation and refurbishment works are underway in line with the hotel’s rebranding exercise.

According to director of marketing communications, Philomena Chan, “Sheraton Subang will be known as Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel effective Oct 1, 2009. However, the rebranding will not affect our food and beverage outlets like the Terazza Brasserie and Miyako Japanese Restaurant. Their operations will continue as usual.”

All about flavour: Chicken Briyani Gam is a rice dish served with dry chicken curry.

With its Mediterranean-influenced décor — honey-coloured tiled floors, rustic wood accents, colourful mosaics and heavy, wrought-iron furnishings — and enticing buffet of European and Asian specialities, Terazza Brasserie attracts a regular crowd. In conjunction with Ramadan, Malay offerings such as Flower Crabs in Sweet, Sour and Spicy Sauce, Grilled Cockles, Prawns in Turmeric Curry, Fried Sliced Beef with Chilli, Murtabak and Seafood Kerabu are given more prominence in the dinner selection.

“Once the Buka Puasa promotion ends, we’ll be having our Special Dinner Buffet,” says Chef Faizal Ghani. “Diners can still enjoy a lavish buffet but main courses will be prepared ala minute and served at their tables.

Miyako Dragon Roll.

“A choice of three main courses comprising our famed signature dishes will be available: Pan-fried Black Cod with Portobello Confit, Citrus and Tomato Beurre Blanc, Chicken Briyani Gam or Grilled Beef Tenderloin accompanied by Asparagus Ragout, Dried Fruit Chutney and Caramelised Shallot Sauce.”

The rich, smooth-textured cod is nicely balanced by the tanginess of the accompanying sauce and the earthiness of portobello mushroom. Tastebuds accustomed to stronger, more robust flavours will favour the Briyani Gam — a hearty rice dish served with a piquant, dry chicken curry while the scrumptious tenderloin is guaranteed to bring out the carnivore in you.

Meanwhile, Japanese cuisine lovers should make their way to the Miyako to savour its splendid buffet of unusual but exquisite Japanese appetisers.

“The buffet has always been a hit, but now we’re giving diners better value by letting them select one main course from our line-up of three choices,” says Chan.

The first main course — Miyako Dragon Roll befits its imperial sounding name as it comprises a whole deep-fried prawn, cheese, lettuce and cucumber rolled with sushi rice, Japanese seaweed and flying fish roe. The mélange of different textures and distinct nuances integrate so well that it will leave you asking for more.

Spicy Gindara Teriyaki.

Although it is drenched in a full-bodied, dark and sweetish sauce, the Miyako Tofu Steak turns out to be a healthy second option. Topped generously with sliced shiitake mushrooms, minced chicken and fried mixed vegetables, the block of pan-fried silky smooth tofu is unexpectedly hearty. Finely chopped onion, garlic and chilli also impart a nice piquancy to the dish.

The third signature offering is Spicy Gindara Teriyaki — a slab of tender cod fillet dusted with chilli flakes before it is grilled and basted with a flavourful teriyaki sauce.

While waiting for their main course to be ready, diners can tuck into unlimited servings of Nigiri Sushi, Sashimi, Jiru (soups), Assorted Japanese Salads and Pickles and Chawan Mushi (steamed egg custard). If you have tummy space to spare, round off your meal with luscious desserts.
