FRAMES are perfect complement to any art pieces, no matter how austere the work is.
“A photo or painting is nothing until it is framed. Two different frames on a piece of painting will give different effects either a rustic or contemporary look,” said Gobie Raju, co-owner of B’Artistic Frames & Gallery, a custom professional frame gallery located in Damansara Perdana.
Walking into the shop is like walking into an art gallery, with paintings of various medium by local and international artists decorating the walls.
Precision: One of the workers V. M. Sathishkumar showing Zee Tengku Idris and Gobie Raju how the corners of the frames are cut. Piles of art pieces are stacked on the floor waiting to be framed.
“We provide services to people including those from the hotel industry and even royal families.
“We also have developers and corporate figures as our clients,” he added.
Opening a frame shop was probably the last thing that Gobie had in mind.
Nonetheless he had been collecting artworks from years of travelling throughout South-East Asia.
Gobie said he had bought quite a number of artworks during his business trips, especially from Bali, Vietnam and India.
He set up the framing business after he ended up owning several high-tech framing machines.
Strokes of brilliance: One of the abstract Islamic calligraphy pieces. “We were supplying timber to a frame company and somehow they could not settle their bills and we ended up with the machines.
“I didn’t know what to do with it initially and it just sat in my storage for a year until I started this business,” he said.
With the help of co-owners like David Chong, who has more than 30 years of experience in the field, B’Artistic can create frames to suit various needs.
They had also received recognition from the Professional Picture Framemaker Association.
The frames are created from mahogany, oak, pine, maple and kampas.
Pewter, silver, metal and glass are also used, for unique designs or to create a desired effect within a frame.
In addition to paintings and pictures, B’Artistic Frames also frames mirrors, model houses and toy cars.
Holy verses: A contemporary piece in black and white. In time for Hari Raya, the gallery had also brought in a special collection of Islamic calligraphy pieces.
The work, which were done by artists from Lahore, Pakistan, features Quranic verses.
“I know many Muslims would love to have these Islamic art pieces in their homes,” said Zee Tengku Idris, the person responsible for bringing the artwork.
“The verses are done creatively and owing to the unique element of these pieces. It can even be excellent decorative items on the wall,” he said.
Zee, who is also one of the co-owners of B’Artistic, believes there is a demand for such artworks in the country.
“Many of my friends are asking for these type of artworks,” she said.
Most of the pieces are done in earthy tones with a blend of brown, dark red, orange, gold dominating the collection.
However, there are some pieces with warmer tones of red, yellow and black for a touch of classic appeal.
“We try to bring as many varieties as possible so that our customers have plenty to choose from.
“These are very suitable as corporate gifts as well,” she said.
The pieces are available both framed and un-framed.
She added that they would also be bringing in decorative hand-woven carpets with Islamic calligraphy work soon.
“These carpets are not meant for the floor but to adorn walls,” she said.
