A TOTAL of RM30,000 in donations were handed out to 11 residents associations and the poor in the Bukit Antarabangsa area to add more merriment to their Hari Raya celebration.
The donations were given under an allocation by the Prime Minister’s Department and disbursed through the Ampang constituency coordinating officer Datuk Ismail Kijo.
“We have previously offered assistance to families which were affected directly by the landslide which struck Bukit Antarabangsa last year.
“But those who were not directly hit by the tragedy still need help,” he said during a breaking fast ceremony at the Bukit Antarabangsa community service centre recently.
Ismail added that he hoped the donations given to the 79 orphans and disabled people would add more cheer to their Hari Raya.
“I also hope that the orphans would be able to celebrate the festivities just as joyfully as ordinary children with parents,” said Ismail, who is also Ampang Umno division chief.
He said his post as the coordinating officer was introduced in July and had similar responsibilities to a Member of Parliament such as to help the residents in times of need.
Ismail said he would offer help to all regardless of their political inclinations, race and religion.
Each residents association received RM2,000 while RM1,000 was given to the single mothers association in Bukit Antarabangsa which consists of 31 members.
The orphans also received RM50 each while disabled people were given RM100 each.
Some RM5,000 was donated to the service centre for its operations.
The service centre’s director-general, Raja Nazarudin Raja Nazrul, said most of the residents in the area had settled back into their houses.
“Only about 200 families have yet to move back in,” he said.
