RM1mil grant for Sri Murugan tuition centre

What say you on the issue below?

THE Government has allocated RM1 million to the Sri Murugan Centre to help poor and deserving Indian students excel in their education, Tamil Nesan reported.

The centre’s director and founder, Datuk Dr M. Thambirajah, told reporters after receiving the cheque from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Putrajaya on Wednesday.

The centre was established in 1982 to focus on education.

It provides tuition for UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM students.

He said that over the years the centre had produced 16,000 graduates.

It has 103 branches throughout the country.

He added that the funds would be used to open new centres with better facilities.

In another report, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the National Youth Skill Training Institute’s courses would be revised to be more relevant to the job market.

He said his ministry was seeking the assistance of the private sector to identify the areas of demand so that courses could be tailored accordingly.

He said fresh certificate holders from the institute earned between RM800 and RM900 monthly, which was no longer adequate given the current economic situation.

Ahmad Shabery was speaking to reporters after inspecting the construction of the institute’s RM78mil campus in Kertih on Tuesday.

It is expected to be completed in March next year and can accommodate about 500 students.
