KUALA LUMPUR: Those who allege irregularities in the Sept 12 MIC elections should lodge complaints with the party’s central working committee (CWC).
MIC election committee chairman Datuk K. Vijayanathan said this was clearly stipulated in the party’s constitution and election by-laws provided to candidates who contested for various party posts.
“Many of them do not read the party’s constitution and the by-laws, which clearly state that any complaint has to be directed to the CWC, and not the election committee, within seven days,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Vijayanathan was commenting on allegations of irregularities in the election process by several candidates who lost and wanted the results to be declared null and void.
P. Subramaniam, who contested for a vice-president’s post, said the main concern was the vote-counting process.
About 90% of those counting the votes were under the payroll of the MIC, he claimed at a press conference on Saturday.
Vijayanathan said none of the candidates or their agents had raised any objection to the committee before or after the counting was done.
“They (the candidates) should point out the actual irregularities rather than blame those who were doing the counting of the votes,” he said.
He added that he was puzzled at their motive in raising the issue two weeks after the elections.
A total of 73 candidates contested in the polls for the posts of deputy president, three vice-presidents, and positions in the CWC.
