Recruiting new members through online portal

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC will recruit new members, especially youths and educated people, through an online portal, president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said.

“We will also open more youth branches, with opportunities provided to graduates to lead them,” he said at the closing of the two-day MIC general assembly yesterday.

Samy Vellu also appointed a youthful team to major positions in the party.

The new appointments include former MIC Youth secretary S. Murugesan, 42, a lawyer, as the secretary-general.

Murugesan takes over from Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, who has been elevated to vice-president.

Samy Vellu has also appointed MIC national economic bureau secretary Datuk Jaspal Singh, 47, as the treasurer-general, to take over from Deputy Minister in the Prime Minis- ter’s Department Datuk S.K. Deva- many, who is now a vice-president.

Putera MIC coordinator P. Kamalanathan, 42, has been appointed as the new information chief.
