IPOH: With the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration less than two weeks away, colourful ketupat casings are selling like hot cakes.
Store manager May Wong said her store started selling ketupat casings a week before the start of Ramadan.
“The ketupat decorations sold at my store are made by my four workers,” she said, adding that ketupat had been a regular feature of her store since it opened for business 10 years ago.
When met at her Jalan Mustafa Al-Bakri store here, Wong said her regular customers had been enquiring about the ketupat decorations long before the start of Rama-dan.
“My customers, who are mainly government servants and businessmen, liked the rainbow colours as they create a festive atmosphere,” she added.
Bluish Raya: Wong’s worker Rozaimah Mat Isa showing some colourful ketupat shells. Asked whether sales had been affected due to the economic downturn, Wong said the prices of her decorative ketupat casings were affordable.
She sells smaller ketupat decorations at RM3 for three pieces and RM3 per piece for the bigger ones.
Besides ketupat, other decorations used during Hari Raya such as blinking lights and decorative boxes are also available at her store.
