PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating the possibility that the hand grenade seized from a condominium in Kota Damansara had been smuggled from a neighbouring country.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said police were gathering information on how and why the hand grenade was smuggled in.
“We cannot discount the possibility that the suspect got the hand grenade from a neighbouring country as he often goes abroad.
“Our records show that the suspect does not have a criminal record except that he was involved in a fight,” he said.
The hand grenade was seized from the suspect’s home at D’shire Villa on Tuesday after his 61-year-old father reported that the suspect had threatened to kill him with a pistol.
However, when searching for the pistol found the hand grenade was found instead in the suspect’s bedroom.
Arjunaidi said the suspect had been remanded for six days to assist in the investigation.
The suspect’s father, a government retiree told police that his son was mentally ill.
Arjunaidi said the suspect would be taken for an examination at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
