A DISABLED beggar is roaming the city and capitalising on the sympathy of motorists who stop at traffic junctions.
The man has been seen in Bangsar, Brickfields and Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) in Kuala Lumpur.
The one-armed man wraps his good arm with a bandage so that he looks like he has no hands.
He would approach motorists with a plastic container, grasping its handle in his mouth, and ask for money when the traffic lights turn red.
Seeking a handout: A motorist putting money into the plastic container held in the man’s mouth. Note that his good left arm is hidden behind his back. During a recent visit to TTDI, The Star photographer Yap Chee Hong saw the man approaching the cars at the traffic lights and walking in the middle of the busy road.
He would shake the container, indicating to people to put money into it.
After the traffic lights turned green, the man was seen putting his coins into a plastic bag with his good arm.
The action by the man not only endangers himself as well as other road-users but also takes unfair advantage of the public’s generosity.
