KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor royal family is insisting the alleged assault issue has come out in the open because they refused to accept the Negri Sembilan royalty’s demand for a RM50mil compensation and unconditional apology.
Palace sources said the allegations were baseless and that the amount was “exorbitant and outrageous,” adding the Johor side would not “be bluffed.”
“Fifty million ringgit is an exorbitantly excessive sum for a broken nose.
“Check the court records and you will see that cases involving broken noses or nose-related injuries are between RM3,500 and RM27,000,” said the palace sources.
The alleged incident happened at a club known as the Heritage Mansion where someone from the Negri Sembilan royalty was claimed to have acted rudely and uttered insult against the Sultan of Johor and the Raja Muda of Johor.
The sources said the Raja Muda of Johor had earlier reserved a place in the Heritage Mansion for a function that night, while the group from the Negri Sembilan royalty had gone there separately.
The sources added an altercation erupted between the two groups that involved the bodyguards as well.
Shortly after, members of the Negri Sembilan royalty were said to have “invaded” the Crowne Plaza hotel where another altercation ensued with the group comprising the Johor royalty.
The Raja Muda of Johor was not involved in the altercation, especially when he was an army officer trained to be disciplined by the Indian army.
The sources also questioned why the Negri Sembilan royalty or Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar, who was at the hotel that night, did not file a suit against the Johor royal family immediately after the incident.
“They should have filed the suit against the Johor royal family or the Raja Muda of Johor if they claim they are right.
“They cannot say that the authorities are not doing anything because the police took statements from everyone that night,” they added.
The sources said all the allegations were a bluff, adding the Johor palace would not even consider giving a single sen.
They said agreeing to a cash settlement would be tantamount to pleading guilty.
