JOHOR BARU: While other candidates are using VCDs and Internet social websites to woo support, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam is turning to Tamil classical music.
The party secretary-general, who is contesting a vice-president’s post, has mailed hundreds of Tamil classical music cassettes to delegates.
To drive home his message, the songs depict unity. A short message from Subramaniam, who is the Segamat MP, is also slotted in.
When asked what prompted him to use cassettes when most people used CDs these days, Subramaniam said he wanted to woo the older generation of delegates.
“There is still a considerable number of delegates who listen to radio and enjoy classical music,’’ he said.
A Johor Baru MIC delegate, who has been in the party for over two decades, said this was the first time that he had received so much election material.
“Every day, I get more than a dozen letters, booklets and name cards detailing the positions people are vying for and their ballot paper numbers,” he said.
A delegate from Batu Pahat said the colourful material was a “waste of funds”.
“Some of them have really designed the material well but I will only give my vote to hard working party leaders,” he said.
