KUALA LUMPUR: Former ISA detainee and Hindraf lawyer M. Manoharan has filed a RM100mil suit against the Malaysian Government and five others for calling him a terrorist two years ago.
Accompanied by fellow former ISA detainee and Hindraf legal adviser P. Uthayakumar, Mano-haran filed the suit at the High Court Registry at about 10am yesterday.
The other defendants named in the suit are Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, Star Publications (M) Bhd, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd and Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd.
The Kota Alam Shah state assemblyman is also seeking other damages and an injunction to stop the defendants or their agents from repeating any of the libelous statements about him, as well as other relief deemed fit by the court.
In his statement of claim, Manoharan said the defendants said or published words which implied that he was a violent terrorist, a devil in disguise, and intended to use violence to achieve his objective.
He also said the statements implied that he had intention to kill and maim other Malaysians, which had caused him great embarrassment and ruined his reputation.
