Malaysia, Truly Asia affair at Westin Hotel

What say you on the issue below?

NOTHING beats breaking fast with a few sips of the zam zam water brought in specially from the well that never dries up in Mecca.

The colourless and slightly salty water is served at the Ramadan Santapan buffet at The Living Room in Westin Hotel.

For the benefit of Muslim guests: The hotel has specially brought in zam zam water from Mecca.

Together with the creamy textured dates, zam zam water is served in small glasses to all guests at the beginning of the meal.

Apart from this crowd-puller, the 700 dishes (including assorted condiments) spread on the buffet table are not to be missed.

This year, the spotlight is still focused on the nasi kandar, gulai and kawah in pots and cauldrons.

Westin kitchens assistant director Rudy Junaidie pointed out that the way of serving mimicked that in the kampung in the days of old, giving it a rustic feel amid the sophisticated setting.

Something different: Nasi bubur berlauk Kelantan is similar to Teochew porridge, wherein congee is served with dishes

The best way to enjoy the traditional delights is to get a scoop of the Westin biryani or Westin nasi kandar and top it with ayam kurma, ketam goreng berempah, sotong curry, telor lomak cili api, puyuh berlada and gulai tetel, to name a few.

Choices are aplenty, so remember to save some room for ulam, nasi bubur berlauk Kelantan (which is similar to Teochew porridge, wherein the congee is served with dishes), Brother Ng’s Claypot Rice, sushi, bubur lambuk, spaghetti and grilled fish.

One’s craving for a bowl of piping hot soup can be satisfied at the Bubbling Hotpot counter, which prompts diners to pick from an array of vegetables and meat to be dipped in Hot & Sour, Coconut & Galangal, Rich Duck & Yuzu Goju Consomme, Oxtail & Cinnamon Pho-Style soups.

A few must-try dishes from The Westin’s restaurants – Prego, Qba Latin Bar & Grill and EEST – such as wood-fired pizzas, Maracas Bay Baked Fish, Truffle Har Gau, Scallop and Asparagus Dumpling – are available, too.

Moving on, a generous selection of treats awaits diners, including the king of fruits.

Tasty morsels: Delicate Chinese dim sum help make the buffet spread ‘Malaysia, Truly Asia

Since the Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner, slices of the hotel’s signature mooncake are also offered.

To sum it up, Rudy said proudly, “Our buffet is best described as ‘Malaysia, Truly Asia’.”

Priced at RM108++ per person from Mondays to Thursdays and RM128++ per person from Fridays to Sundays, the Ramadhan Santapan buffet is available from 7pm to 10.30pm nightly.
