Lemang maker dreams big

What say you on the issue below?

PETALING JAYA: He has had a small stall selling lemang by the roadside in Puchong Permai for years but he dreams big.

Abdul Raof Jamaluddin constantly thinks about how to attract customers and, more importantly, he wants customers to think about him when they want to buy lemang.

He has come up with an incentive. For those who buy RM50 worth of lemang, he gives them a stamp, which can be collected and exchanged for gifts when they reach a certain amount of points.

For RM100 worth of lemang, customers will be eligible to a lucky draw with the grand prize being a three-day two-nights’ stay in Jakarta.

“Hopefully, my strategy will work and I will be able to set up my own factory by next year,” said Abdul Raof, who has been selling lemang for the past seven years.

Since last year, he has been selling lemang all year round from 9am to 10pm.

On ordinary days, he sells 20-30 sticks of lemang daily.

During Ramadan, sales can hit 200 sticks a day.
