KUALA LUMPUR: There is inconsistency in some of the signatures of MCA central delegates in their requisition forms seeking an extraordinary general meeting (EGM), MCA secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said.
He said MCA had completed the verification procedure on the signatures on the 921 requisition forms, submitted on Friday by supporters of sacked deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, requesting an EGM to be convened.
“We detected inconsistent signatures in the forms,” said Wong, adding that he would announce the outcome today.
Wong did not say whether the signatures were acceptable or not, and did not give the number of inconsistent signatures.
Citing an example, he said several central delegates signed their Chinese names or initials but gave their English names in the requisition forms.
It was reported that at least 100 of the 921 signatures were believed to be dubious.
Dr Chua needs 800 or a third of the 2,377 central delegates’ signatures to call for an EGM.
Wong is also supposed to meet up with representatives from Dr Chua’s side and president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat’s side on the proposed resolution for the EGM at 3pm today.
Meanwhile, one of those who made the requisition, Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, said a total of 921 requisition forms with signatures were submitted although about 1,200 central delegates signed the forms.
“I chose the figure 921 because Sept 21 marks World Peace Day,” he said, adding that he hoped to see peace in the party.
Tan said it had nothing to do with the earthquake in Taiwan, which took place on Sept 21, 1999, adding that it also did not have any link to Chinese triads.
Some delegates were unhappy with the decision to submit only 921 requisition forms while others questioned the number, believing it to be a secret code for triads.
Tan said that he believed the number would be good for all.
