MALACCA: Housewife Nor Azlina Abdullah hires single mothers to make curry puffs for the festivities

Nor Azlina, 40, who is from Kampung Lapan, said she made it a point to hire them to help run her business of supplying curry puffs to a hypermarket in Bachang.

“I started making and selling frozen curry puffs two year ago as a means of supplementing the family income.

“Now that I have succeeded, I want to help other single mothers and the less fortunate, too,” she told The Star when met at her shop recently.

Doing well: Nor Azlina plans to hire more agents to market her products and expand her business so she can help more single mothers.

Besides two full-time workers, Nor Azlina said she employed four single mothers living nearby to help out at her shop on a part-time basis.

“I also try to help those who need extra income for the festivities by giving them work.

“I pay them RM2 per hour and allow them to work flexible hours because I know that they have their own children to tend to,” she added.

“I used to get a lot of walk-in customers but this year, I have had to put in more efforts to market my curry puffs,” she said, adding that she was fortunate to be a hypermarket supplier.

“I plan to hire more agents to market my products so that I can expand my business and eventually help more single mothers next year,” she said.

Besides curry puffs, Nor Azlina also makes frozen doughnuts, sardine rolls and more than 10 types of Hari Raya cookies.
