Hire more temporary teachers, Govt urged

What say you on the issue below?

TAMIL Nesan reported that the Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam had in a memorandum urged the Government to increase its intake of temporary Tamil school teachers from 300 to 500 for this year.

He said as there were more than 1,000 temporary teachers in Tamil schools, the Government should make it a standard practice to allow at least 50% of the teachers to attend teacher training courses during the holidays.

He said such courses would ensure that the temporary teachers were more competent and well-trained to motivate students, adding that the Government had allocated RM130mil for the building of new schools and the refurbishment of existing ones.

He said the Government was taking the necessary action to settle the land status of many schools that were currently partly-aided so that they could be converted into fully-aided schools in future.
