Help in time of dire need

What say you on the issue below?

IT WAS a happy moment for part-time worker Maimunah Ramli, 52, when she received the keys to a flat in Taman Muhibbah, Kajang, Selangor, recently.

Serdang Umno division chief Mohd Fathil Daud gave the keys to the two-beadroom flat to Maimunah and her ailing husband, Jamaludin Ismail, 56.

Touching scene: An emotional Maimunah receiving the keys from Mohd Fathil. On the right is Maimunah Abdul Karim.

The couple will be residing in the flat rent-free.

A teary-eyed Maimunah said she was grateful for the aid being extended as she now had a chance to move out of the dilapidated hut in Sungai Ramal Baru which the family had called home for the past five years.

Their three children, aged 15, 18 and 21, lived with them while two others have moved out after tying the knot.

“This is quite a debt to repay and I know I can never do it. I am thankful for the kindness of these strangers who are helping me in my time of dire need,” said Mainumah who ekes a daily living skewering satay.

Her income averages between RM15 and RM20 as it depends on the number of sticks brought by the supplier on the day.

One child is still at school while the other two are trying to secure permanent jobs to help out with the family expenses.

According to Mohd Fathil, the family will reside in the flat for free while waiting for their low-cost house to be built nearby.

“We are hoping to obtain the approval of the Hulu Langat Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to use part of the Sungai Langat river reserve to construct the house with the funds we have raised,” he said.

Also present was Serdang Wanita Umno chief and Welfare Bureau chairman Maimunah Abdul Karim.
