TANJONG KARANG: Four fishermen were feared drowned after their boat capsized about 30 nautical miles off Sekinchan near here yesterday.

Selangor Marine Operations Force commanding officer DSP Marzuki Ismail said the skipper of the boat was a local while the three others were believed to be foreigners.

He said a search operation was mounted after being alerted but had to be called off because of the darkness. The search will resume today.

Meanwhile, Chia Ah Hee, a board member of the Sungai Besar Fishermen’s Association, said fishermen passing in the area came upon the capsized boat at about 7am.

“They alerted the Marine Operations Force,” he said.

In Kota kinabalu, an eight-year-old boy drowned while swimming at a beach during lunch time in Kampung Contoh, Putatan, near here.

Four youths who were at the beach noticed Mohd Shaheqwan Saili and a friend shouting for help but they failed to rescue them, Putatan police chief, Sergeant Major Mohd Isa Kamzah said.

He said rescue personnel recovered Shaheqwan’s body and were still searching for the other boy, Muin Lasaji, seven.
