Brickfields’ Jalan Berhala to be renamed

What say you on the issue below?

DEPUTY Federal Territories Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said that Jalan Berhala in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, would be renamed in memory of two prominent Malaysian Indians, Makkal Osai reported.

He said one part of the road would be named after K. Ramanathan Chettiar, the third MIC president from 1950 to 1951, and the other part after Tan Sri M.G. Pandithan, who was the founder-president of the Indian Progressive Front.

He also said the name change was made in agreement with Kuala Lumpur City Hall and was part of efforts to turn the area into a “Little India”.

He added that the Government had in 1982 approved the naming of a road after another Indian leader, Tun V.T. Sambanthan, who was the MIC’s fifth president.

> Malaysia Nanban reported that former Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders were still united and would continue fighting for the rights of the Indian community.

In a press release, its three previous leaders, V. Ganabatirau, K. Vasantha Kumar and R. Kengadharan said that although they had differences in opinions, they were still united in fighting for the good of the Indian community.
