HELLO folks! And welcome to this week’s Food Trail. First, I would like to thank blogger Joanna Woon for a wonderful pictorial tour of Klang’s Hainanese coffee shops.
Good work Joanna! Her recommendation is something that I would check out.
Moving on we take a look at Ipoh curry laksa, which is offered at an upscale coffee shop in Lucky Garden, Bangsar.
Thumbs up: Sun Huat Kee’s Ipoh curry laksa. This was mentioned by Lucas Chin, a foodie friend.
According to Lucas, the curry laksa at Sun Huat Kee is worth a mention.
He added that the stall had been around for at least two years and was frequented by a legion of loyal customers.
Taking the que from Lucas, I decided to check the place out with my buddies CM Khor and Allan Fong.
Now, the first thing that I noticed was the yuk yeen fun (meatball noodles) stall at the coffee shop.
It was the same person who ran a stall two doors away and according to Lucas, they too branched out when the outlet opened.
As for the Ipoh curry laksa, it was not difficult to spot the stall.
I went up to the guy and ordered a large bowl.
It took about five minutes for the noodles to arrive and at RM6.50 a pop I’d say that the portions were generous with all the garnishings and ingredients thrown in.
For me, I love my laksa topped with taugeh and the guy who prepared it got it just right.
And when it came to the taste, the laksa stall met all the basic requirements.
The gravy was tasty and full of flavour and best of all, not too salty.
Standard ingredients like the taufoo pok, steamed chicken and cockles added generously.
I also noticed that most of the patrons at the coffee shop fequented the sang har meen (fried noodles with giant river prawn) stall.
Later, I realised the owners were the same couple who ran the Tai Shue Thou stall in Taman Megah at Petaling Jaya.
To cap it off, we had a plate of ngou yuk hor (fried beef koay teow) at RM8 a plate.
It was more expensive than any other fried noodles but since it was made by the relatives of Soo Kee of Jalan Imbi, it was a worthwhile experience.
The Sun Huat Kee coffee shop is located next to Lucky Garden’s Alliance bank branch.
