Badminton coach endorses outlet

What say you on the issue below?

AMONG the busy outlets on the lower ground floor of Sungei Wang Plaza in Kuala Lumpur is a new coffee shop that offers a variety of local delicacies and Western cuisine.

And, if you drop in at Pak Hailam Kopitiam, you might even spot national badminton coach Datuk Misbun Sidek enjoying a meal there.

Good food: Misbun enjoying his meal at Pak Hailam Kopitiam in Sungei Wang Plaza.

“I am always on the lookout for new eateries to bring my family and friends for a good meal, and this is a good place with good food,” said Misbun, who is the outlet’s new ambassador.

Misbun revealed his favourite items at the outlet were the Curry Laksa and Beef Soup that reminded him of the home-cooked food he enjoyed when he was young.

“I am proud to endorse this place because of the wonderful environment and excellent food,” Misbun added, noting the outlet also served healthy food like the wholemeal dumpling at only RM1.

Pak Hailam is a family-owned business that started off as a small stall in Batu Arang, Rawang. Over the years, the owner – who had come from China when he was 17 – created the “Hailam Special Brew”, which quickly garnered a following among the outlet’s patrons and added Chinese dumplings and hawker-style noodles to the menu.

As the owner was often referred to as “Pak Hailam” by his customers, it soon bacame the trademark of his coffee shop.

“We are concerned with the quality of the food. All the dishes are prepared fresh and are not pre-cooked,” said Pak Hailam Kopitiam marketing manager Deric Low.

“Our eatery is certified ‘halal’ by Jakim, and all our employees are Malaysians who converse in fluent Bahasa Malaysia and English,” he added.

Among the customers’ favourites at the outlet are Nasi Lemak with curry chicken, Beef Noodle Soup, Curry Laksa and Pak Hailam Chicken Chop.

Apart from the famous coffee that is still brewed the way it has always been, the outlet also offers fruit juices and ice-blended drinks.

Besides the one in Sungei Wang Plaza, Pak Hailam Kopitiam has two other outlets in Kuala Lumpur, which are located in Kepong Baru and Tesco Extra Cheras. The kopitiam also has plans to open more outlets, in Tesco, Carrefour and Giant hypermarkets.
