Accord on how Beyonce will dress

PETALING JAYA: An amicable “understanding” has been reached concerning superstar Beyonce Knowles’ costumes for her concert on Oct 25.

Without revealing what the “amicable understanding” was, concert organiser Marctensia media liaison officer Goh Yoke Leng said: “We are confident that Beyonce’s concert put Malaysia back on track in presenting A-list international pop concerts and further boost tourism.”

Touching on PAS’ protests against the US singer’s sometimes racy costumes and performances, Goh said the company believes that every citizen had the right to express his/her views.

“However we choose to reserve further comments on their statement. We are ecstatic to be able to bring in a mega-concert that we believe the majority of Malaysians will enjoy,” she added.

Former concert organiser Razlan Ahmad Razali lauded Marctensia’s success in getting Beyonce’s concert approved despite protests.

“Before as a concert promoter, we were also frustrated by PAS’ protests. When they make noise, we tend to buckle under their pressure,” he said in an immediate reaction.

He said international artistes did not lose much if they chose not to perform in a country with too many restrictive concert guidelines.

Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez said the authorities, once they have approved such a concert, should stick to their decision.

On Saturday, PAS Youth vice-chief Sabki Yusof said they would send a protest note to the Government over the concert, although he said there were no plans to disrupt the concert.

“We are not against entertainment as long as it is within the framework of our culture and our religion.

“We are against Western sexy performances. We don’t think our people need that,” he said.
