KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve people died in road accidents on Monday, the second day of Ops Sikap.

Nine of the deaths involved motorcyclists in mishaps on state roads, said the police in a statement. Three other deaths were in accidents involving a car, a minivan and a lorry.

A total 1,182 accidents were recorded, most of which occurred on municipal roads.

Police also issued a total of 13,168 summonses for various traffic offences.

Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh said motorists who had pledged to practise road etiquette, should “walk the talk” this Hari Raya.

Motorists should also drive responsibly in line with the department’s road safety campaign slogan that “they can change everything,” he said after distributing stickers to motorists in conjunction with the road safety campaign at KL Sentral here yesterday.
