NIKON has unveiled its first mirrorless digital cameras, which are notably smaller and lighter than conventional single-lens reflex cameras.
The interchangeable-lens cameras, to be sold under the brand name Nikon 1, are available in two models, the J1 and the V1.
Designed from scratch, Nikon 1 is equipped with a 10.1 megapixel AF CMOS sensor and offers the fastest auto focusing system, with 73 points to capture fast moving subjects. It is capable of speedy continuous shooting at 60 frames per second, allowing users to capture sporting events and children at play with relative ease.
With the Smart Photo Selector feature, users can capture candid shots as the camera is capable of recording 20 shots in a single click and select the best five frames to keep. Meanwhile, Nikon’s Expeed 3 engine allows simultaneous view display and image processing so users will not feel the lag in between shots.
In terms of movie recording, Nikon 1 captures in full HD movie 1920 x 10080 or 60i format. At the same time, users can have fun with slow motion movie that records at 400 fps in 640 x 240 format and 1,200 fps in 320 x 120 format.
The J1 model will be available in white, silver, black, red and pink, while V1 comes in black and white finishings. It’s usable with the 1 Nikkor range of lenses and customers have a chance to get the matching coloured lens. With the FT1 mount adapter, users may pair the Nikon 1 body with F mount Nikkor lenses.
The Nikon 1 V1 is also compatible with other accessories such as the Speedlight SB-N5 and GP-N100 GPS unit. It will be available next month.
