Selangor honours eight outstanding athletes

SELANGOR celebrated their victory as the overall champions in the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) programme by presenting a special award to eight outstanding athletes.

The eight were Ivan Yuen (squash), Darren Subramaniam (squash), Adam Jaya (tennis), Nur Shazwani Zullkafli (chess), Yong Sue Ann (squash), Siti Safiyah Abdul Rahman (bowling), Elaine Koon (gymnastics) and Mohd Firdaus Isa (archery).

The Selangor Education Depart-ment sports unit head Noor Azli Abdul Rahman said they were proud of their achievements in the MSSM programme.

“This year it is more special as Selangor became the overall champions for the 10th season. We have been champions since 2001. We would like to remember some of the athletes who had contributed to our success in the MSSM,’’ said Noor Azli.

In the MSSM programme, Selangor were overall champions in eight of the 24 events in the programme. Selangor were champions in cross country, cricket, golf, artistic gymnastics, chess, archery, football and netball.

All the gold medal winners, individual and team members, as well as the coaches and officials were presented with a medallion and certificate.

Klang were the overall champions in Selangor.

Selangor Education Department director Abdullah Mad Yunus said they were pleased with the Selangor contingents’ results in the MSSM.

“These awards should be an inspiration to our students to give their best in next year’s MSSM programme,’’ said Abdullah.
