An Oktoberfest not to be missed

What say you on the issue below?

A FEAST of German culture, traditions, music and cuisine sets the stage for a rollicking good night of merry-making at the Penang Swim-ming Club’s (PSC) Oktoberfest Celebration 2011.

To be held on Oct 14 from 7pm onwards at the club’s Boat Yard, the event will exude an ambience that is typically Bavarian — the region in Germany where the festival had been celebrated since 1810.

PSC general manager Abdul Rahman Ahmad said the highlights would include the renowned five-piece Oom Pah Pah band specially flown in from Germany.

There will also be a host of authentic Bavarian dishes like Nurnberger Sausage, Olma Veal Bratwurst Sausage and Smoked Garlic Sausage prepared by a German chef from the Weissbrau Bistro and Bar.

In addition, there is also Beef Goulash and Bavarian beer, to feast on. There will also be stage games, a lucky draw and a display of the latest sets of wheels by event sponsors BMW.

Organising chairman A. Ramo said it was the second time the club would be celebrating Oktoberfest on a big scale, with the first edition in 2009 that had successfully attracted a crowd of 500.

The club is targetting a crowd of around 560 people, with tickets available to club members at RM75 for adults and RM50 for youngsters aged five to 15. For non-members, the price is RM95 for both adults and children aged five and above.

All kids below five get to enter for free while members of other clubs affiliated with the PSC enjoy a buy-9-free-1 promotion on tickets.

The adult tickets are inclusive of a limited edition beer mug with one round of beer.

As of press time, almost two-thirds of tickets have been sold. The remainder are available on a first-come-first-served basis, by contacting the reception counter at 04-8907370.

Those interested to sponsor the event may contact Rahman through the same number.
