What say you on the issue below?

RENOWNED Indonesian soul and funk band Maliq & D’Essentials will perform their first free-standing concert in Malaysia in KL LIVE, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, on Dec 16.

The concert is being organised by Splendid Entertainment Sdn Bhd, who had recently organised a sold-out dinner concert featuring Indonesian songbird Rossa.

Maliq & D’Essentials comprises Angga and Indah (vocals), Widi (drums), Ilman (keyboard), Javafinger aka Jawa (bass) and Lale (guitar).

Ready to play: Maliq & D’Essentials will be in town in December and one local band will get the chance to open the concert.

The band is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is known for combining Indonesian and English in their songs.

The group has been nominated for and won awards such as MTV Indonesia Award, Planet Muzik Award (Singapore), AMI Awards (Indonesia) and MTV Asia Awards (Bangkok, Thailand).

Maliq & D’Essentials has also performed at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival five times since 2005 and has a growing fan-base in Jakarta, as well as neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

During the concert, they will perform such soulful hits as Terdiam, Untitled, The One, Heaven, Free Your Mind, Sunshine, Dia and Kau Yang Bisa as well as up-tempo pop-rock numbers Pilihanku and Coba Katakan.

Singles from their fourth studio album, which was released in 2010, can also be expected.

One aspiring local band will be given the chance to become the opening act at the concert.

To enter this contest, interested bands can send in a demo of no longer than four minutes singing any of Maliq & D’Essentials song. Demo clips can be submitted from Oct 27 to Nov 15.

Ten local bands will be shortlisted and only one winner will be picked based on the highest number of online votes.

The winners will be announced on Dec 3.

Contest rules and regulations can be found on www.splendid8.com.

Tickets are priced at RM98 and will be available from Oct 27.
