SMILES lit up the faces of some 450 children from 24 welfare homes in Penang and Kedah as they had a good time during the Penang Hindu Youth Organisation’s 49th Annual Deepavali Party.

The party at the Ramakrishna Ashrama on Jalan Scotland, Penang, was touted as the biggest Deepavali party organised by the organisation so far.

Organisation president N. Rajivan said the party wanted to share the spirit of Deepavali with underprivileged children regardless of their race and religion.

Fun time: A clown eliciting much laughter.

Among the welfare homes that were present at the party were Children Protection Society (CPS), Wisma Yatim Perempuan, Handicapped Children Centre and Kamatchi Home.

He added that a bigger celebration would be organised during the party’s 50th anniversary next year.

During the party, the children were entertained with games, live band performances and clowns.

They were also given goodie bags and toys such as teddy bears.

Also present during the party were the organisation’s past presidents Datuk V. Sithambaram and Datuk K. Kumaraendran, and northeast district Youth and Sports Department deputy director N. Vijaykumar.
