MUAR: Malaysian singing sensation Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin wants younger generations to visit Bukit Kepong to know the history of the attack on its police station in 1950.
She said most did not know the real history of the incident where 16 policemen and their family members were killed by communist rebels in Bukit Kepong.
She said she too did not know much about the attack of the police station and only learned of the incident through a movie called Peristiwa Bukit Kepong.
“However, after I looked at all the pictures exhibited in the old police station, which has been turned into a police museum, I felt very sad.
“As a policeman’s daughter, I now feel hurt by the remarks made by a PAS leader who called the policemen and their families as British agents,” she said when met at the old police station recently.
Siti, who was accompanied by husband Datuk Khalid Mohammad Jiwa said people should visit the museum to get the historical facts about the attack on the police station.
The singer said it was good that she and her husband joined the 1Malaysia Ride Convoy as they managed to see many remote places which they had never visited before.
She said among all the places Malaysians should visit is Bukit Kepong which had a history of how the policemen fought the communist rebels.
“Here we can read the information and see pictures of the incident at the old police station in 1950.
“I really value the contributions and sacrifice of those who fought the communist rebels,” she added.
