All out to help the needy

What say you on the issue below?

MUAR: All poor, sick, old, single mothers and mentally challenged people in the Pagoh area will receive special aid to ease their plight and financial burden.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the aid would be distributed regardless of race of religions until the end of this year.

He said the first phase of aid distribution this year covered some 800 recipients and there a second phase would cover those not included in this year’s list of those eligible.

“We have asked the state representatives for Bukit Serampang and Jorak as well as the district officer and relevant departments to identify those eligible for the aid.

A helping hand: Muhyiddin helping Halijah Jaafar,73, set up her new wheelchair at the special programme for people’s welfare at Sek Keb Paya Panjang in Pagoh.

“We want to provide whatever aid and assistance to these groups as we do not want them to be sidelined as the nation grows,” Muhyiddin said after presenting cash and other aid to 168 people at SK Kampung Paya Panjang near here recently.

Muhyiddin said although the country had progressed and prospered and many Malaysians now enjoyed a good life, there were still those who needed help.

He added that, although the Welfare Department and other agencies had aid-distribution programmes, there were some who did not receive the aid. He revealed that the department recently decided to launch a “People’s Prosperity” programme specifically to provide cash and other aid to such people.

Besides needy people, the department also looks into the needs of welfare-oriented organisations, youth associations, school PTAs, mosques, temples and other institutions.

He said that these bodies play important roles in society and it was appropriate that the division provided them with some financial support.

“We hope our support will further encourage these groups in their activities and contributions towards the society, he added.
