Vienna Boys Choir charms Malaysian audience

What say you on the issue below?

AFTER seven years, the Vienna Boys Choir returned to Malaysia last week for a much anticipated performance at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Austrian ambassador Andrea Wicke said the last time the boys were in the country was in 2004 where they entertained guests at the Genting Highlands Resort.

“They are very excited to be back in Malaysia to perform once again to spread and share the joy of music around,” she said before the start of the concert.

Follow me: Choir conductor and pianist Kerem Sezen guiding the boys through the songs during the concert.

The choir group, Wicke said had a strong 500-year history where they were proud to show to music lovers around the world.

“The boys go through solid classical training and rehearse the songs daily,” she said.

Wicke added that the boys’ had a tight schedule to abide, hence they only had few time slots available in their tour around the world.

The two-hour concert on Thursday left guests awed by their flawless singing which saw the boys tackling songs in several languages.

The 20-odd boys, aged between 10 and 14 also sang two Chinese folk songs, Bang Chhun and Hong Xiang Jia Le.

Gesture of thanks: Wicke (right) presenting Star Publications Bhd chief events officer Iris Tan with a token of appreciation for being one of the official media partners of the event.

Before the night came to an end, the boys’ choir performed several folk songs like Rasa Sayang together with the Permata Seni Choir group.

The experience is the first for the boys as they usually have groups singing before or after them.

The Vienna Boys’ Choir is presented by BMW Malaysia and endorsed by the Austrian Embassy. The Star is the event’s official media partner.
