Quaint bungalow offers soothing atmosphere for diners

What say you on the issue below?

THE mysterious yet comforting garden in the novel by English author Frances Hodgson Burnett was a central theme of healing and rejuvenation.

Just like in the novel, a ‘Secret Garden’ can be found right at the doorstep of Ipoh and is only a stone’s throw away from the busy Jalan Raja DiHilir.

Officially opened to the public on Aug 7 last year, the previously dilapidated bungalow was refurbished to provide a welcoming dining environment exuding sophistication and comfort.

Its heritage architecture is sure to captivate visitors, transporting them to a rustic getaway from the worries of everyday life.

Yummy!: An inviting dish of Pan-fried Smoked Duck with Beetroot Crust.

Not forgetting, of course, its scenic and tranquil garden, which radiates a soothing sensation where visitors can choose to relax in while savouring its gourmet dishes.

Presented in four pieces on a slim rectangular black tile and topped with nacho chips is the Honey Mustard Salmon, specially imported and served with a special blend of mixed vegetables.

A simple yet stunning dish, the salmon’s unique flavour is locked in together with the natural sweetness of the honey.

For poultry lovers, the Chicken Parmigianina may be a mouthful to order but the fret of making sure it is pronounced right to the waiter or waitress is sure to be forgotten as one takes the first bite.

The tender chicken meat melts in your mouth, giving delicious bite after bite that are blended perfectly with the heavenly combination of tangy salsa sauce and grilled cheese on top of the crispy grilled skin.

Patrons who prefer a bolder flavour can opt to drizzle brown sauce on it while the springy texture of the spaghetti served together with the dish provides more than enough reasons for it to be a crowd favourite.

Bite into this: Chicken Parmigianina with the tender chicken that melts in the mouth.

Another best-selling chicken dish is the Chicken Monet served with Caesar Salad and White Wine Sauce, once again proving the chef’s finesse in producing mouth-watering dishes.

The crispy grilled chicken is certainly addictive and the Caesar salad provides a contrasting light flavour compared to the strong aroma of the former.

To add an extra zing to the tender meat, patrons can complement it with the white wine sauce.

Others would also be surprised with its Pan-fried Smoked Duck with Beetroot Crust as the flavour bursts out with every bite into the succulent pieces.

Nice combination: The Grilled Lamb Rack is best accompanied by a bottle of fine red wine.

Meat lovers should not miss out on Secret Garden’s juicy Grilled Lamb Rack, paired beautifully with wine from the restaurant’s collection.

With the meat done medium rare, it is hard to resist the temptation to tuck into the dish with both hands.

Patrons can choose from the restaurant’s fine collection of over 100 varieties of red and white wines from Australia, France, Italy, Chile and South Africa.

Those wishing to celebrate a wonderful occasion can opt for high-quality champagnes and ice wine while connoisseurs may pick between Chiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot grape varieties.

Secret Garden manager Kok How said the wines were hand picked to ensure good quality while patrons who preferred to spend an outing with friends could opt for a night out at the restaurant’s sports bar.

For Christmas, the restaurant has come up with a special menu with hearty meals of pan-roasted turkey, venison and roasted lamb leg.
