Bandar Puteri residents want waterlogged slope strengthened

What say you on the issue below?

RESIDENTS of Bandar Puteri 9 in Puchong want the authorities to take immediate measures to strengthen the slope to avoid a major landslide.

Recently, the retaining wall along Jalan 9/2 collapsed and although it has been repaired, residents feel there is still a danger of a landslide because of underground water in the area.

Bandar Puteri 9 Residents Association (RA) committee member Paramanathan Muniandy said even without rain, water was continuously gushing down the slope.

Signs of danger: Paramanathan checking one of the underground water sources in the valley where water is gushing down.

“The situation is worsening as more water is gushing down the slope compared with six months ago,” said Paramanathan.

He said since the Minerals and Geoscience Department had confirmed that there was underground water, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) should take action without further delay due to the rainy season.

“There are already cracks appearing on our driveways.

“The matter was brought up six months ago but the authorities are still dragging their feet,” added another resident Jacob Samuel.

“MPSJ officers have visited the site and we gave them video clips of water gushing down the slope.

“Hopefully this would prompt them to act and find solutions before the foundation of our homes is further weakened,” said Samuel.

MPSJ had suggested building a rock buttress and strengthening the retaining wall.

Council engineering head Dr Adnan Derahman said they would also conduct a study with the help of Ikram on the condition of the slope and then address the problem accordingly.

He said the council would propose the plan and Ikram would tender out the job.

Samuel said their main concern was the underground water flowing out from the slope.

“The authorities must admit there is a problem and a simple patch-up work is not a solution.

“We want a long-term solution once and for all,” he said.
