Condo residents want 50m-long crack on road repaired soon

What say you on the issue below?

THE Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) said the 50m-long crack on the road near the Pandan Mewah Heights condominium was caused by the erosion of Sungai Kerayong.

Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) will carry out remedial work soon.

Condominium residents fear that if the cracks worsen it might weaken the building structure.

Serious damage: Residents are concerned over their safety.

Pandan Mewah Heights joint management body chairman Michael Yap said repair work should be carried out immediately as any delay could lead to tragedy.

Cracks on the road first appeared on Nov 17 and became bigger by Monday.

He said a lot of people were concerned over their safety and wanted assurance from the state government and MPAJ.

“MPAJ and DID officers are monitoring the place and we hope the allocation for the remedial work will be approved soon,” he said.

He added that MPAJ had put canvas over the crack to prevent rain water from seeping in and aggravating the situation further.

Selangor Housing, Building Management and Squatters chairman and Cempaka assemblyman Iskandar Samad, who also visited the site on Monday, said the damage to the retaining wall of the river had caused the cracks to appear on the road.

“Repair work will cost about RM3mil but we are waiting for a detailed report from DID.

“Checks carried out by MPAJ showed that the condominium is safe for now and there are no soil movement,” he said.

Pandan Mewah Heights has six condominium blocks with 528 units and about 2,000 residents.

The retaining wall of the river is more than 15 years old and was built when Pandan Mewah was first established.
