RMN officers join the community in Aidiladha function

KOTA KINABALU: Ranks were put aside for a day as the state’s high and low ranked Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officers joined the community in celebrating the Hari Raya Haji here recently.

Among those who participated was RMN Region 2 Commander Rear Admiral Datuk Anuwi Hassan who helped villagers residing near the Sepanggar naval base sacrifice 15 cows and goats for the occasion.

Region 2 Assistant Chief Staff of Logisitcs Captain Mazlan Mohd Yunus also took part, as officers and villagers worked hand in hand to slaughter the animals to mark one of the most important celebrations in the Muslim calendar.

In prayer: A prayer held at the Masjid Ibnu Battutah in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha at the Sepanggar Navy Base recently.

The distribution of meat was later held at the Sepanggar naval base’s Ibnu Battutah mosque with RMN Submarine Fleet Commander First Admiral Datuk Mohammad Rosland Omar joining Anuwi to present portions of meat to the respective village heads.

The navy people certainly had a different Aidiladha celebrations this year, as the get together with the community was seldom carried out, paving the way for stronger bond with the community.

Meanwhile, state Resource Development and Information Technology Assistant Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, who is also the Karambunai assemblywoman, also presented a cow to the naval base.
