RM2.8mil facelift

What say you on the issue below?

THE Federal Government and two of its agencies will allocate RM2.8mil to refurbish the Sri Bagan low-cost flats near Bagan Dalam in Butterworth as the units are in a dilapidated condition.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the Federal Government would provide RM1.4mil while the remaining sum would come from the Penang Economic Action Council and Penang Bumiputera Development Council.

He said the fund was expected to be released in about two to three weeks.

The National Housing Department would then commence remedial work on three blocks of the 13-storey low-cost flats.

Nor Mohamed said this after visiting the flats yesterday.

Present were Bagan parliamentary Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) officer David Chua and Bagan Dalam ICU officer M. Karuppanan.

The fund would be used to repaint the 20-year-old flats and upgrade the elevators.

Nor Mohamed claimed that the state government had failed to help the residents there although Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is the Bagan MP and the Bagan Dalam state constituency is also held by the DAP.

Nor Mohamed said the Federal Government did not differentiate between an Opposition-held constituency or the ones held by Barisan.

He said it provided help to all who were in need.
