Committee to be set up for Visit Perak Year 2012

With Visit Perak Year 2012 just around the corner, the Batu Gajah District Council will set up a special committee to deal with tourism products.

Council president Datuk Jamry Sury said the committee would see which new tourism product could be established at the district level.

The committee, he said, would also look at ways to upgrade existing tourism products.

“I hope to see the committee up and running as soon as possible to ensure that Visit Perak Year is a success.

“There are many potential tourism products that have yet to be tapped, and I am sure with so may heads thinking we can churn out something,” he said at the council’s full board meeting held recently.

Jamry said he would chair the committee, while district councillors would be roped in as committee members.

“Once the committee is set up, which I hope will be soon, we will be able to see some progress,” he added.

He also advised all those in the council to speed up addressing people’s complaints to ensure a high success rate in resolving issues. is achieved.

He added that if talk of the next general election being near was indeed true, it was important that public complaints are looked into speedily.

“We need to gain public confidence and support, and at the local-council level we need to play our role to gain respect from the people,” he added.

On another matter, Jamry said the council had collected RM34,400 in fines from cattle breeders whose animals were caught straying.

Council enforcement officers, he said, had caught 31 stray buffaloes, cows and goats in the first 10 months of the year.

He also said the council’s one-stop centre until Oct 20, have received 305 applications for development projects.

From that figure, a total of 23 applications were being processed, while another 282 had been processed.
