THE UK’s top-selling cider, Strongbow, is on board the Raja Muda Selangor Internation Regatta (RMSIR) for a second time with Baby Tonga to take on the soaring tide of the busy Malacca Straits and the fierce wind of the Andaman Sea.
The 22nd edition of the prestigious RMSIR will be held until Nov 27.
Baby Tonga, three-time consecutive winner of the Premier Cruising Division title at the RMSIR, is fast becoming a legend in the Asian regatta circuit and is poised to deliver yet another win this year, thanks to the excellent stewardship of skipper, Aussie legend Fraser M. Johnston, and a formidable crew.
Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB) marketing manager and Strongbow spokesman Tai See Wai said, “We had a great partnership with Baby Tonga and the RMSIR. On top of that, Baby Tonga’s win in the Premiere Class three years running has made the partnership a perfect fit.”
Going for it: Baby Tonga will be aiming to rule the waves again this year. “Being a distinguished sporting and lifestyle event, RMSIR is the perfect platform for us.
“The taste of Strongbow and Baby Tonga go hand-in-hand as we quench consumers’ thirst for adventure and a refreshing experience.
“We wish Baby Tonga all the best in the race, and look forward to seeing them fill the winner’s trophy with Strongbow again,” Tai said.
Despite the mounting pressure to win in unpredictable wind and sea conditions, the Beneteau F53 Baby Tonga will not succumb to the heat.
Crew member Antoine Commare said his team stands a good chance to go after the title again.
“We have a great crew who are very competent, disciplined and, above all, hungry to win again.
“The wind and tide may be different each time, but our passion and dedication to win remain the same.
“We can’t wait to challenge the other yachts and participating in the challenging and exciting race this year,” he said.
One of Asia’s most distinguished regattas, the RMSIR takes place over 240km consisting of three overnight passage races.
Contestants will race from Port Klang to Pangkor, Pangkor to Penang and Penang to Langkawi, inclusive of a day of harbour racing in both Penang and Langkawi.
