The 2.16ha cemetery will be ready in June.

Raudhatul Sakinah Bukit Kiara 2, a new 2.16ha cemetery land beside the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and Sprint Highway will enter its second phase of development for landscaping and other facilities in January. It is scheduled for completion in June.

The land was handed over to Jawi in 1999, under the National Land Code.

The first phase of development which includes land clearing, grass planting and gate construction, for this garden cemetery began in June this year and will end in December.

It will have a gazebo, lamp posts, surau, and waiting room for family members.

The cemetery is expected to hold up to 45,000 bodies until 2061, on top of the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery's capacity of 126,000 until 2035, while the KL-Karak Highway Muslim Cemetery can accommodate up to 800,000 until 2061.

With this, Jawi is also in the process of introducing e-Pusara, which will help keep burial records.

The electronic system for the KL-Karak Highway Muslim Cemetery and the Bukit Kiara cemetery will be implemented next month while the Raudhatul Sakinah Bukit Kiara 2's e-system will be implemenedt in June next year.

Jawi director Datuk Che Mat Che Ali said the new plots can cater to the rising population.

"Kuala Lumpur has a high population. Bukit Kiara and KL-Karak cemeteries are still not fully utilised," he said adding that they are working together with Public Works Department and City Hall to complete the development of the Raudhatul Sakinah Bukit Kiara 2.

He said the cemetery would only cater to those who live in the area.

Residents have a choice to bury their deceased at the 24ha KL-Karak Highway Muslim Cemetery or the 6.4ha Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery.

He said the new cemetery will be monitored and taken care of by Jawi Dakwah management division.
