Business operators in Jalan Maarof in Bangsar are calling for a dialogue with City Hall for an explanation on its road-widening project there.
Taxi drivers who do not queue in the marked lane cause traffic congestion in Jalan Maarof.
The operators claimed that City Hall's public works department had come and marked their premises, but failed to inform the owners on what the markings were for.
The traders said they were only told that a road-widening project was to take place soon.
The business operators said the road-widening project, which is expected to start at the junction of Jalan Bangsar into Jalan Maarof and end at the junction of Masjid Saidina Abu Bakar, was not feasible.
The operators want City Hall to furnish details of the project.
TKM Resources Sdn Bhd director Chin Jik Leong claimed that City Hall officers had come and marked their premises last week but failed to give them any details.
"City Hall can't simply come and mark our premises without giving us details on what is taking place.
"We were only told that City Hall would be widening Jalan Maarof next to the Petronas station from two lanes to three lanes. We are not sure if that is going to solve the traffic congestion problem," he said.
Chin said City Hall should have a dialogue with the business operators to find out their grouses.
"We want to have a dialogue with City Hall to discuss the road-widening project. We want to see the plans and we want to know how the operators will be affected once the project starts," he said.
Bangsaria building management manager Paul Yeow said that even when there were no taxis queuing for the NGV gas, there is still traffic congestion in front of the Petronas station.
"Constructing another lane will only allow more cars to come in and further congest the place. Residents will suffer if they decide to widen the roads and Bangsar will lose its exclusivity.
Bukit Bandaraya Residents' Associations deputy president Mumtaz Ali said the road widening project will add to more congestion in the area.
"The road widening is not going to solve anything.
"The extra lane will still be taken up by the taxi drivers who are queuing up daily for the NGV gas at the Petronas station," he said.
Mumtaz also claimed that Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin had said that there were plans to move the taxi drivers to another area, to prevent traffic congestion in the area.
"We hope that the ministry will look into shifting the taxi drivers to another area," he said.
Mumtaz added that the ministry should also look into de-linking the flyover from Mid Valley into Jalan Maarof.
"Jalan Maarof has become a thoroughfare with high traffic. They should seriously look at de-linking it," he said.
