Laptop bundled with free China trip

What say you on the issue below?

WHILE most computer shops offer discounts or freebies such as headsets or laptop coolers, one store in Penang is throwing in a free four-day/five-night travel package to China to woo customers.

And response has been so overwhelming that Makson Computer Sales and Services is extending its special promotion until end of this month.

Shop owner Hoo Hon Khee, 40, said customers need to purchase the RM1,899 MSI CX480 laptop to be entitled to the complimentary 5D/4N travel package (excluding air tickets) to Shanghai and Hangzhou for four persons.

“Each customer will receive two coupons that can be exchanged for the travel package for four people, which includes a four-night stay in a three-star hotel and meals,” he said at the store in Prangin Mall, Penang.

Hoo added that the offer, which was originally from Oct 1 to Oct 16, had been extended until the end of the month due to the good response.

Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (Pikom) president Shaifubahrim Saleh said this was the first time he had heard of a free travel package for those who buy laptops.

“Usually, computer shops offer free gifts and discounts as they have to come up with ingenious tactics and promotions due to the tough competition,” he said.

He, however, urged consumers to consider the numerous options available before making a final decision.

“As long as the shops do not violate the regulations and marketing practices, they are eligible to come up with unique marketing tactics,” he added.
