IN THE spirit of giving and to brighten up the lives of the underprivileged during Deepa-vali, Da Ma Cai recently treated 35 girls from Sri Saradha Devi Illam to a fun day of shopping, a hearty meal and merriment.
Volunteer staff members from Da Ma Cai took the children shopping as preparation for the upcoming festival.
The children could not contain their excitement when they were told they had a free hand in choosing their own clothes.
Staff members from Da Ma Cai guided the children to make sensible choices and helped them adhere to their budget.
For many of the children, who are orphans or children of single parents, this was the first time they had ever gone shopping for new clothes. For Nandini who comes from a big family with ailing parents, this was the first time she had tried on new shoes.
Walking around the shop wearing her new shoes, Nandini was on cloud nine and judging from her giggles, this was probably one of her happiest days.
Nagalethumi and Guganeswary have never owned a dress which fit them properly, until now, as most of their clothes have been hand-me-downs.
Curtsying to their friends in their new pink dress, both of them could hardly contain their joy with their new purchase.
It was certainly a celebration to look forward to this Deepavali for these children.
After shopping, the children were treated to a scrumptious tea. Da Ma Cai volunteers and the children had a whale of a time interacting with each other.
At the end of the day, everyone was happy and felt enriched by the experience.
In conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations this year, Da Ma Cai donated a total of RM112,500 to 21 charity organisations in the country.
The financial contribution is to support the sustainability and development of services for the needy and marginalised such as disabled persons, elderly persons, orphans and those with social problems.
Among the beneficiary organisations were the Malaysian Children’s Aid Society, Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-kanak Cacat Taman Megah, The Pure Life Society and Jenjarom Old Folks Home.
Each organisation was given between RM2,000 and RM10,000.
