WOMEN should be more concerned about their breasts and have them checked by medical practitioners annually, said Perak Mentri Besar’s wife Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli.
She said women should not put off something as important as a medical examination just because of the fear of finding out they have a medical problem.
“Many people are afraid of finding out that they have cancer.
“Early detection saves lives and women should get themselves checked by undergoing mammogram screenings and breast ultrasound regularly.
“There are dire consequences if the disease is detected too late,” she said when opening the Perak Community Specialist Hospital breast cancer awareness campaign at the Ampang Superbowl in Ipoh recently.
Society and public figures, Saripah said, should encourage women to undergo health examinations to help them acquire a better understanding of their body and to prevent diseases.
Likewise, breast cancer patients need the support of their families and community in their battle against the disease.
