Damaged: The Perodua Myvi that rammed into a shop in Kampung Nyior, Paka in Kuala Terengganu.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A shop owner’s decision to close up half an hour earlier may have saved his life.

The man and his family had barely settled down for the night on Saturday, when they were startled by a loud bang at the front of the shop in Kampung Nyior, Paka.

Running out, they were shocked to see a Perodua Myvi had rammed the shop.

The driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst.

The man’s niece, Maisara Mohd Zakim, 23, said they usually would close up at 10.30pm, but decided to call it a day earlier that night.

“If we had kept to our usual closing hour, one of our relatives might have been seriously injured as the car rammed straight into the shop,” she said.

The two men in the Myvi were heading to Dungun.

Another witness, Manaf, said he saw the car swerve to the left of the road before turning turtle and ramming the front of the shop.

“I am thankful there were no casualties as the two men in the car managed to climbed out of the vehicle,” he said, adding that the car was seriously damaged.
