Battle of the street dancers begins

The hottest street dance competition by Astro, ‘Battleground, the International Battle Zone’, heated up with the first to fourth preliminaries on Sept 24 and 25.

It was held from 1pm to 7pm at e@curve (centre atrium).

The top 14 crews who made it to ‘Battleground’ 2011 are Chique De Luxe, LA Sista, 20 Cents, Oh My Goodness, Freshype, Floor Digital, FIX, Le’Z, Coming Soon, Katoon Network, Dem Lepak Boyz, The Puzzle, D8 Century and 2nd Floor.

The teams were handpicked by judges, Aga a.k.a. Swiftlocker, a dance guru from Taiwan; Loose Joint, pioneering generation of new school dancers who coined the dance style named Hip Hop from U.S.A; and an international judge, BooGTom from Korea.

Among the stand-out dance crews are Battleground 2009 Champion Katoon Network and the gorgeous all-girl dance crew Oh My Goodness and Chique De Luxe.

From the top 14 crews that will battle it out in a series of preliminaries and semifinals, only four finalists will qualify to battle in the Grand Finale to be held on Dec 10.

The main sponsor for Battleground 2011 is Canon while Giordano is co-sponsor. Diva production is the official make-up sponsor; Miko Hair Studio & Academy the official hairdo sponsor, MYFM the official radio station and A|X Armani Exchange as hosts apparel sponsor.

Canon, which is offering a total RM75,000 cash prize, is also organising a ‘Canon In-Action Photography Contest’ during the competition’s preliminaries, semi-finals and final.

This is the battleground for budding photographers to capture the memorable scenes in ‘Battleground’ 2011 with a Canon camera during its preliminaries and semi-final rounds on Oct 29, 30 and Nov 1

Participants stand a chance to get to win a Canon Selphy Printer CP800 with each session, but they are required to pre-register themselves online and re-register again at the same event venue.

Canon will then select three winners from each session who will all qualify for the final round and ultimately the grand prize, Canon EOS 600D — for the most outstanding photograph of the ‘Battleground’ grand finale.
