Wet spell deters tourists

What say you on the issue below?

Dampened mood: Only a handful of visitors spotted at the Penang Hill train station during the public holiday.

RECURRING downpours in the morning resulted in fewer people turning up at the Penang Hill base station to buy tickets to go up the hill despite the Hari Raya Aidiladha break.

It was drizzling early morning fol lowed by heavy rain which put off many holiday makers from visiting the hill.

A check by The Star found that there was no traffic congestion at the bottom station.

A ticket seller said the crowd was smaller compared with the previous public holidays.

Fast queue: No beeline at the train station's ticket counter.

The new funicular train service, which re-opened on April 25, had drawn thousands of locals and tourists during public holidays such as Labour Day, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali this year.

Retiree Warni Pubin, 54, from Kuala Lumpur, said the scenery at the hill top was hazy and blocked by low-lying clouds.

However, Warni, who visited the hill two years ago, said she would come again with her family.

“I hope the weather will be better the next time around,” said the grandmother of eight yesterday.
