SIX mosques and 18 surau in the Bagan parliamentary constituency received RM6,600 from Bagan Barisan Nasional (BN) coordinator David Chua in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Chua gave each mosque RM500 and each surau RM200.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony at Masjid Jamek in Sungai Puyu, Butterworth, Chua said the cash aid came from the Implementation and Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department.

He urged followers of all religions to remain united for the progress of the country.

Chua also urged the Federal Government to pay the one-time handout of RM500 to households earning less than RM3,000 which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 2012 Budget before the new year.

“This will help parents of school- going children in the lower-income group,” he said.

Chua also praised Najib for giving RM100 to all students from Year One to Form 5 through their respective schools to alleviate the financial burden of their families.

Masjid Jamek Sungai Puyu Committee chairman Zainal Abd Hamid thanked Chua for the assistance.

Also present at the function yesterday were Sungai Puyu Barisan coordinator Sum Yee Keong, Penang MIC Youth chairman J. Dhinagaran, Chua’s special assistant Mohd Nordin Saad and Bagan Umno special officer Abdul Hamid Ibrahim.
