SELANGOR Turf Club has sponsored 15,000 copies of Step UpThe Star’s education pullout for Chinese vernacular school pupils in Selangor.

Its chairman Tan Sri Richard Cham said the sponsorship was motivated by the importance of having a strong command of English.

Generous deed: Wong (right) receiving the mock cheque from Cham.

“We should expand the pupils’ linguistic strength from young and give them an opportunity to learn,” he said.

The Star executive director and group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai received a mock cheque of the sponsorship from Cham at Selangor Turf Club recently.

Step Up is a 24-page bilingual education pullout designed to boost English literacy in vernacular schools.

It caters to the linguistics needs of teachers and pupils while retaining the element of excitement that NiE brings to the classroom.

It is a syllabus-based pullout approved by the Education Ministry and prepares pupils in Years Four, Five and Six for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah examination.
